Golden Communications makes senior hire

HO CHI MINH CITY - Vietnamese agency Golden Communications, which has been subject to takeover speculation, has appointed industry veteran Hoang Anh Ng as VP of Golden Communications Group and MD of Golden Advertising.

Golden CEO Hana Dang (pictured) said that she had been looking for somebody to fill the post for some time. “She has a brilliant understanding of the Vietnamese market and will add considerable strength to our business,” she added.

Over a 12-year career in Vietnamese advertising, Ng has had spells at BBDO, Bates141, where she started her career, and the local agency Storm Eye, which she ran as MD for nine years.

Multinational holding companies have been circling Golden with keen interest in recent years, most recently IPG’s McCann, which has made no secret of its desire to re-enter Vietnam.

However, an equity deal with the IPG agency did not materialise because of client conflict and staffing issues.

In addition to Ng, former Lowe creative head Tran Phi Long has joined Golden Advertising as creative director, a role vacated by Roger

Pe, now at Bassac Orchid in Cambodia, and, more recently, Ramon Calibara (Media, 6 June).

At Lowe, Long worked mostly on Unilever brands including OMO and Sunlight. He commented: “I’m so excited to play a new role at Golden Advertising, where uncompromising great creative work is essential for the success of the agency.”
