Sony unleashes quartet of Walkmans
You probably have an MP3 player on your phone, but if you don't Sony wants you to check out its raft of new audio machines. The company has just announced four Walkmans that'll appeal to anyone concerned by Apple's increasingly invasive approach to personal audio. Read more...
New video! MacBook Air 2011 review
The MacBook may be dead, but now the MacBook Air has the power to match its iconic good looks we're finding it hard to mourn. The newly-specced models certainly don't lack in performance - even the base models are stacked - and that's thanks to Intel's Core i5 and i7 processors, Thunderbolt and Mac OS X Lion. This is undoubtedly the best MacBook Air refresh to date, so naturally we had to put it in front of the camera. Warning: you will want one. Watch video...
Next Big Thing – transparent gadgets
Does anyone need their fortune told while texting? Admittedly, the benefits of transparent tech aren't universal, but boffins at Stanford University have developed a see-through lithium-ion battery, the same sort found in phones, MP3 players, cameras and laptops. It's not entirely clear – but the cell's mesh-like framework is too small to see with the human eye. Read more...
Fujitsu Toshiba IS12T is officially the first Windows Phone 7 Mango handset
The Fujitsu Toshiba IS12T handset will be the world's first to feature the new Windows Phone 7 Mango OS, as we speculated when we first saw this video. This announcement chimes with Windows releasing the Mango OS code, with its 500 new features, into the hands of manufacturers. Not only will the join Japanese effort be first in line for the new WinPho goodies, it'll be Japan’s first water and dust-proof smartphone and the world’s highest megapixel handset with a 13.2MP snapper. All that and it even comes in a variety of pretty colours. Now where's the mango shade? Due out in Japan this September. No word on ours yet. View photos...
Bose Companion 20 speakers unveiled
The Bose Companion 20 Multimedia Speaker System has been released on the world with one goal – to embarrass laptop speakers the world over. The duo of speakers, although only slight in form, offer full natural sound using Bose TrueSpace technology designed, we're told, specifically for computer listening. The little towers of power improve sound effects in games, music on playlists and movie audio – all with a handy volume control. The control doubles as a dual minijack input so you can let your mates plug in their iPods when that Level 42 slap-bass solo on repeat is too much – yes they even do bass well without a subwoofer. The Bose Companion 20s are available now from £200. View photos...
BlackBerry Torch 2 and Touch/Volt launches imminent
Oh, BlackBerry, you big teases. First you knock out a casual update on Facebook asking us, “What’s shiny, new and social all over?” Then you go and let official-looking pics of your two alleged new handsets out of the bag marked “top secret”. It looks very much to us like you might have a pair of phones – and we venture they’ll be the BlackBerry Torch 2 and Touch or Volt (the likely names of the Storm evolution) – ripe for release. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 launches a day early
From 5pm on August 3rd – that's next Wednesday – you'll finally be able to get your hands on Samsung's 10.1 inch slice of Honeycomb action. Okay, Galaxy Tab fans, stop doing your victory dance. Sony Cyber-shot TX55 stops being camera shy
Non-SLR cameras are losing the battle against camphones for pocket space. We sense that this knowledge is behind Sony's decision to create a pocket-friendly snapper that’s thinner than a AA battery, but has managed to cram in more features than an out-of-town multiplex cinema. There's 5x optical zoom, though Sony claims to the 5x digital zoom can be used with no loss of resolution thanks to "Pixel Super Resolution". We raise a doubting eyebrow at the notion of lossless digital zoom, but with a 16.2MP Exmor R CMOS sensor, we're pretty sure the TX55 will deliver some pretty sharp results. Read more...
