Fox prepares for unveiling of NatGeo Music

SINGAPORE - Fox International is testing the market ahead of the launch of NatGeo Music in Asia, a channel which is targeting an audience of 30- to 45-year-olds who have an interest in 'world' music.

The channel is expected to air short video clips, and will likely be linked to the NatGeo.com website, from where music tracks and ringtones can be downloaded.

Basil Chua (pictured), marketing director of Fox International Channels Asia, said: “NatGeo Music is for people who’ve seen the world and are interested in music from different cultures. It is carefully positioned away from MTV, which is clearly aimed at a younger audience.”

A launch date has not been confirmed.

Meanwhile, Fox is set to launch NatGeo Junior in Singapore next month.

The channel targets the eight- to 15-year-old school-goers and complements BabyTV, which launched on StarHub’s digital cable platform at the end of last month (Media, 25 January).

BabyTV is aimed at infants up to the age of three years, and is commercial-free.

However, Chua maintained there are still marketing opportunities available.

He said: “Marketers will not be able to run a 30-second spot, but will be able to reach new and expecting mothers through the BabyTV website. For example, a link containing parenting tips brought to viewers by Huggies.

“There are also opportunities for on-ground marketing and activation.”
