Fox mulls launch of NatGeo Music

SINGAPORE - Fox International is testing the market ahead of the launch of NatGeo Music in Asia, a channel targeting 30-45 year olds with an interest in "world" music.

The channel is expected to air short video clips, and be linked to NatGeo.com from which music tracks and ringtones can be downloaded.

Basil Chua (pictured), marketing director of Fox International Channels Asia, said: "NatGeo Music is for people who've seen the world and are interested in music from different cultures. It is carefully positioned away from MTV, which is clearly aimed at a younger audience."

A launch date has not been confirmed.

Meanwhile, Fox is set to launch NatGeo Junior in Singapore next month. The channel targets the 8-15 year old school goers and compliments BabyTV, which launches on StarHub's digital cable platform today (Friday 25th January).

BabyTV is aimed at infants aged 3 years old and younger and is "commercial free". However, Chua maintained there are still marketing opportunities.

"Marketers will not be able to run a 30-second spot, but will be able to reach new and expecting mothers through the BabyTV website. For example, a link containing parenting tips brought to you by Huggies. There are also opportunities for on ground marketing and activation."

BabyTV is targeting a market of 120,000 in Singapore. There are 40,000 babies born in Singapore every year, however Chua said he expected the birthrate to dip this year because it will be year of the rat.
