Fortune celebrates 70th anniversary with classic auction
<p>Fortune is celebrating its 70th anniversary with an auction of </p><p>classic 1930s cover posters, proceeds of which will be donated to the </p><p>Make-A-Wish Foundation, a children's charity. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>The auction is the finale to a 10-day anniversary event, which launched </p><p>in Singapore in mid-February, before moving online and ending with a </p><p>gala dinner and auction in Hong Kong later this month. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>The covers are profiled online on Yahoo! Broadcast, christies.com and </p><p>fortune.com in an online restrospective commemorating the </p><p>anniversary. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>In Singapore, the celebrations kick off with a preview of the 10 posters </p><p>at a gala dinner; three of these will be auctioned live by Christie's </p><p>that evening, and silent bids will be taken on the remaining seven. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>The Hong Kong auction and gala will incorporate the silent bids from the </p><p>Singapore event. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>In addition, one original copy of the first issue of Fortune will be </p><p>awarded to the highest bidder. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>The Hong Kong event will subsequently be broadcast by Yahoo! Broadcast, </p><p>allowing viewers around the world to see the event in streaming </p><p>video. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>"The theme of the evening will be 'The Future of Business'," said </p><p>Fortune Asia publisher Andrew Butcher. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>"During Fortune's early years, the magazine commissioned many of the </p><p>20th century's greatest painters and illustrators to produce cover art </p><p>to document the modern era. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>"By showcasing the beauty of these covers, we are able to reflect upon </p><p>moments of our heritage as we celebrate the promises of tomorrow." </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>The online retrospective and subsequent auction broadcast, he added, </p><p>utilised Internet technology which "allows us to put our emphasis firmly </p><p>on the future". </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants wishes to children with terminal or </p><p>life-threatening illnesses; proceeds from the event will directly </p><p>benefit children in Asia. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>Fortune's 10-day 70th anniversary celebrations are supported by four </p><p>partners: Christie's Hong Kong, the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong, Veuve </p><p>Cliquot and Yahoo. </p><p><BR><BR> </p>
