We are at the dawn of nothing less than a major industrial
revolution.
The economy is globalising. Information technology is racing
forward.
In recent years, Dentsu has committed itself to being at the forefront
of these trends, and it was in 2000 that our initiatives toward this
goal began to coalesce.
In March, Dentsu entered into a partnership with the Bcom3 Group through
capital participation. This alliance has helped us consolidate our
global network, and has provided Dentsu with a basis for extending our
highest-quality services from within Japan to throughout the world. We
consider this a significant step in consolidating our position as a
major player in the 21st century.
With the progress of economic recovery, Dentsu also showed strong
performance throughout Asia. Gross income of the Dentsu network is
expected to leap 50 per cent from the previous year's figure. The DY&R
network is also growing at a rate of 20 per cent.
Media Palette, a media marketing company in Taiwan, was extended to
China, Thailand and Malaysia. Relying on Dentsu's expertise, its branch
in Taiwan handles programme production, public relations and music
events in addition to media planning and buying.
With large, established corporations now involved in e-economy along
with the pure dotcom players, the needs of clients for the Internet and
other information technology-related services have been increasing. In
1975, the Dentsu group established Information Services
International-Dentsu, a systems integration enterprise, which in the
course of its operations has accumulated extensive IT expertise. We also
got a head start in using the Internet as an advertising medium in Japan
by founding Cyber Communications in 1996 as an Internet-based media
representative. This year, Dentsu established a company to handle
advertising on mobile phones carrying the Internet, a medium expected to
grow rapidly in Japan. We have enjoyed extremely dynamic performance in
these fields. All of us at Dentsu believe that our current efforts will
greatly contribute to the improvement of our services and the
enhancement of our credibility among our clients in the new century.
