More than 75 budding bowlers from the Singapore ad industry and

client field participated in the ESPN STAR Sports (ESS) Grand Slam Media

Bowling Competition 2000 held at the Cathay Bowl on January 14.

Jointly organised and sponsored by ESS and MEDIA, the competition saw

teams compete for individual, team and "special" prizes.

All this while downing as much beer and food as humanly possible.

The result, a mix of ridiculously high scores, a low number of injuries

(mostly bruised egos) and four hours of non-stop fun!

Taking top honours in the team category were Ericsson Consumer Products

Asia Pacific, narrowly beating Wunderman Cato Johnson and third-place

Euro RSCG.

In the Individual category, Francis Chua of Ericsson clinched the top

spot, followed by Alvin Lee of WCJ and Kevin Santa Maria of

Newsweek.

pecial awards were also given to Anthony Pounds (141) for the "Best"

Bowling Form, to the team from Time Warner for Best Group

Spirit-In-Action (thank you Foster's!), to Wati Baba from Newsweek

International for the Most Excitable Bowler (hmmm ...), while Luenne

Choa of Star TV and Gary Tang of Optimedia International were crowned

Gutter Queen and Gutter King, respectively.

The Singapore Grand Slam was the third in a series of ad trade fringe

events surrounding the ESPN Asian Bowling Tour '99.

Other markets included Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Watch out for more action in the 2000 season!
