Five-way race for Petronas regional creative

KUALA LUMPUR - Petronas, the Malaysian oil and gas giant, is reviewing its estimated RM12.8 million (US$3.7 million) regional advertising account with five agencies in contention.

M&C Saatchi, Leo Burnett, Grey, McCann and BBDO are contesting the business, which is believed to cover Indonesia, Thailand, India and China, as well as parts of its domestic  business in Malaysia. The regional incumbent, local agency Astana, will not take part in the pitch - scheduled for 9 May.

Agencies have been briefed to create a positioning campaign for the motorbike oil brand Sprinter, with the winner set tp be awarded the rest of the Petronas business, which includes its fuel, lubricant and motor oil products.

Petronas’ domestic corporate and F1 business, handled by Leo Burnett, is not affected by the review.
