MANILA The Philippines Convention & Visitor Corporation (PCVC) has won approval to build an additional exhibition hall as part of the Philippine International Convention Centre (PICC), which the body said would boost Manila's industry.
PCVC executive director Mr Danny Corpuz said work is to start on the extension in September and complete in 2003.
"A feasibility study will be commissioned to look into its size, configuration and amenities," Mr Corpuz said. "Actual ground breaking is targeted for September to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the PICC.
"It should be operational by January of 2003, as it has been committed as a facility to host the Asian Dental Congress during that month."
Mr Corpuz added the approval would allow the PCVC to pursue events that required meeting and exhibition space in the same complex.
"The Philippine World Trade Center will focus on trade events, while the new exhibition space of PICC will focus on consumer type of exhibits."
