Estavillo to move to DDB International

KUALA LUMPUR - JWT Malay-sia managing director Neal Estavillo is leaving the agency to take the helm at DDB International as chief executive.

JWT’s current strategic planning director, Subhendu Mukherjee, will succeed Estavillo as MD when he moves over in November.

Estavillo calls time on a six-year career at JWT, three as MD and three as client service director.
“I feel that now is the right time to leave. A solid succession plan is in place. Subhendu is part of the dream team who helped me create the agency culture,” he said.

Estavillo joins DDB International at a difficult time for the agency, often regarded as the poor cousin of Naga DDB. Chief executive Florence Loh is believed to have left the agency, and it is unclear whether she has a new position to go to.

“My brief for DDBI is simple - fix it and make it big. The challenge is to make DDBI live up to the brand equity of the DDB network,” Estavillo added.

An influential member of the 4As, Estavillo came to Malaysia 14 years ago from the Philippines, where he was with FCB. He also had a stint at Grey on the client services side.

Mukherjee takes over from Estavillo after a five-year stint running JWT’s planning department, overseeing clients including Nestlé, HSBC and Unilever.

She was instrumental in securing JWT’s recent new business successes, which include Great Eastern Insurance and Silverbird bread.
