ChallengesFinding a suitable location for 728 people, including accommodation and conventionfacilities, was the biggest challenge. The search covered hotels in Bangkok, KualaLumpur, Macau, Shanghai and Singapore. Designing a programme for people from 13 countries that would both appeal and inspire was the other major challenge.
ExecutionWorld Express from Singapore was the event manager for the third time. They were supported by Singapore creative agency ace:daytons direct and Thailand ground handler, Asia World.The event was held at the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel and Towers in Bangkok.Bangkok also offered the right financial balance, says Essilor Asia Pacific executive director of commercial strategy and client development Stephen Shawler.It also provided flight access from all 13 countries as well as providing a variety of off-site leisure activities and dining options.Activities included a golf tournament, excursions to Ayuthaya and the Grand Palace,a Thai cooking class, spas and massages, and cycling tours. A total of 23 speakers were used, delivered via a three-way simultaneous translation.
Verdict“The welcome reception really blew them away,” says Shawler. “We had a huge fireworks display, launched from a boat with our logo out in the middle of the river.“The food, entertainment, Thai dance, hip-hop girls and MC Jennifer Su arriving by boat against the backdrop of the river really set the tone for the event.“Our customers were overwhelmed. People from every country and culture were touched. It was a resounding success.”
