Elkins departs midway through global Visa media review

SAN FRANCISCO - Visa International's EVP of global brand marketing, John Elkins, is believed to be leaving the company, midway through the global media review that he is overseeing.

According to sources, the impact of Elkins’ departure on the ongoing pitch remains unclear. Elkins joined Visa in 2003, from a previous role as chairman and chief executive of FutureBrand.

The four contenders for the business – OMD, MEC, Starcom and Aegis Media - will pitch in the US for the US$650 million account during the first two weeks of November, according to a brief that calls for a particular focus on Visa’s Fifa sponsorship strategy.

Each of the agencies currently handles aspects of Visa’s global business, with OMD in charge of the Asia-Pacific account. Visa representatives did not respond to request for comment by press time.
