Edelman promotes Tao, Yan in Shanghai

SHANGHAI - Edelman has appointed Tony Tao (pictured) as managing director of its Shanghai office, as well as promoting Helen Yan to the position of general manager of China healthcare.

Currently working as senior account director in Shanghai, Tao will replace Richard Muller, who has relocated to Sydney to take up a position with marketing-based PR firm Porter Novelli. While the appointment is effective immediately, the agency’s managing director for Mainland China and Taiwan will operate as acting managing director of the Shanghai office as Tao transitions into his new role.

Lankester noted meanwhile that Yan’s promotion was a reflection of the exponential growth of China’s health market. He added that the firm was looking to expand its Shanghai operation significantly over the coming eighteen months, and that the focus would be on developing its healthcare, technology, digital and CSR business across China.

The Shanghai office currently supports a staff of 60, a figure Lankester said was expected to increase to 80 by the end of next year.
