Eastern in acquisition of more mag titles

Singapore's Eastern Publishing has acquired Asia-Pacific Metalworking Equipment News (MEN), and Furniture Design & Manufacturing Asia (FDM) as part of an aggressive expansion drive that began at the beginning of the year. With a BPA-audited circulation of 12,000, Metalworking Equipment News covers the region's heavy industry sector such as the automotive and aerospace industries. Furniture Design & Manufacturing, which comes with an annual buyers' guide and a Chinese edition, has a circulation of 8,000. The group kicked-off its buying spree in January, when it bought men's lifestyle magazine, Brave, with a circulation of more than 30,000. Eastern Publishing's executive director Kenneth Tan said the group is always on the look-out for titles buy to complement its existing family of magazines and that "there could be more acquisitions to come". He said this was especially true at this point in time because additional quality content translates into additional web opportunities. "We already have a Website for Motherhood magazine; motherhood.com with editorial content, chat facilities as well as an ecommerce component, and our other portals will have similar potentials but we have to make sure we have the best content," he told MEDIA. Eastern's foray into cyberspace is being undertaken by the group's wholly-owned subsidiary, Syndikos. More web launches in association with the titles it currently publishes, including its travel, teen and golf magazines, are scheduled to take place before the end of this year. Among the titles Eastern currently publishes are Motherhood (English and Chinese editions), Baby Plus, Parenting Guide, Premier Golf, Premier Golf Buyers' Guide, Motoring Magazine and Teens. The group also publishes regional titles Asian Travel Trade and Frequent Traveller.
