E-auction to decide Telkom pitch victor

JAKARTA - Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) will decide its US$10 million media and creative accounts via an online auction, which took place last week.

The news comes a fortnight after the Tourism Authority of Thailand awarded its domestic and international accounts to Leo Burnett and McCann WorldGroup, respectively, after an e-auction.

According to sources, the state-owned company requested for creative agencies to partner with sister media companies for the pitch.

Three pairs of agencies have been shortlisted for the final round: Euro RSCG and MPG of Havas, Publicis Groupe’s Saatchi & Saatchi and ZenithOptimedia, and WPP’s BatesAsia 141 and MindShare.

Of the three, two will be selected to handle three of Telkom’s services: fixed-line, high-speed internet and mobile brand Flexi. A result is expected by the end of the year.

However, at least two shops had dropped out in the early stages of the review (Media, 31 August). The two selected agencies were expected to pitch against each other for each new campaign, revealed a source.
