Dramas, docus are No.1 in Hong Kong
<p>Drama series are the most popular television programmes on local </p><p>Chinese channels in Hong Kong, while movies and documentaries dominated </p><p>the most-watched programmes ranking on the English-language services of </p><p>TVB and ATV. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>According to data provided by ACNielsen Media International, 1.4 million </p><p>viewers tuned into Hong Kong Cable TV during the first week of this </p><p>year, with the movie channel topping the most-watched station on both </p><p>weekdays and weekends. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>CNBC attracted 116,000 viewers in the high-income bracket (monthly </p><p>household income of more than HKdollars 30,000), while 109,000 </p><p>top-occupation professionals tuned into Discovery Channel. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>Star TV attracted an audience reach of 512,000 viewers for the same </p><p>period. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>Hong Kong TV ratings were released for the first time this year as part </p><p>of Nielsen's new service, which also saw the expansion of the TV ratings </p><p>home panel from 325 to 600 homes at the beginning of this year. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>ATV and TVB both renewed five-year contracts to the ratings service, </p><p>while CNBC and Discovery became the first regional subscribers. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>"The new data allows us to see for the first time, how niche channels of </p><p>cable and satellite are performing," said Mediacom director of media </p><p>research and strategic planning Adrian King. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>"The advertising industry now has access to accurate viewing habits of </p><p>niche channels, which gives us a greater understanding of target markets </p><p>for certain products." </p><p><BR><BR> </p>
