Dow Jones hires Brendle for Asia

Dow Jones has named a former regional head of Hachette Filippachi, Christine Brendle, as the new MD for the Wall Street Journal Asia, which has gone compact.

Brendle, who has been working as a consultant to the media industry since leaving Hachette in 2001, replaces Winnie Wong, who recently left after eight years with Dow Jones. She also succeeds Wong as MD of the Far Eastern Economic Review. Brendle's career with Hachette spanned 17 years, including six as Asia-Pacific head from 1995 to 2001. In 2004, together with her business partners, she launched two Hong Kong-based English language dailies for kids. She officially takes the helm at the Journal at the beginning of Febuary. Wong, said to be considering her options, joined Dow Jones in 1998, after serving as Asia-Pacific circulation director for the International Herald Tribune.
