Domestic Olympics support solidifies: study

BEIJING - The seventh wave of R3 and CSM's research about consumer behaviour shows support for the Olympics at an all-time high, with 90 per cent of posts on popular websites positive towards the games, the torch and bearers.

Negative responses were seen as being directed towards Spielberg, CNN and “the French”, due to the controversy arising over the Tibet issue.
Confidence and passion for China are also at an all time high, suggesting that international protests have solidified Chinese patriotism.

Sporting celebrities are gaining in traction in the lead up to the games, with Yao Ming and Liu Xiang far ahead of the competition in terms of recognition. Yao’s lead over Liu can partially be explained by the end of the track and field season, as well as of the booming popularity of basketball in China.
