Discovery names new international leadership

SILVER SPRING - Discovery Networks International has named Greg Ricca as its new president and CEO, replacing Dawn McCall - who departs the company after two decades.

Ricca, who was previously COO of MTV International for seven years, will report to Discovery Communications’ new president of global business and operations, Mark Hollinger.

The changes are part of a wide-ranging restructuring at the pay-TV network, which includes the elimination of Billy Campbell’s role as Discovery Networks US president. Instead, five network brand groups will now report directly to Discovery Communications CEO David Zaslav, in a bid to create a “lean and aggressive organisation”, according to a company statement.

In addition, Tom Wolzien has been retained as a consultant to work with senior management on Discovery’s global growth strategy. Wolzein previously ran the media practice for Sanford C. Bernstein.
