Discovery launches three 24-hour channels in India

NEW DELHI - Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific is launching three 24-hour channels - Discovery Science, Discovery Turbo and Discovery HD - in India to capitalise on the country's booming cable TV market.

The company plans to launch Discovery Science and Discovery Turbo on both analogue and digital platforms, while Discovery HD will be launched on the digital platform.

The network launches increase the breadth of Discovery’s television offering in India to six channels.

Discovery currently broadcasts Discovery Channel, Discovery Travel & Living and Animal Planet in India. The three networks reach 109 million subscribers.

Discovery has been highly active in recent months in expanding its presence in Asia. In July, Discovery and Chinese search engine Baidu teamed to launch Discovery Channel's Chinese website allowing TV audiences in China to interact on a digital platform for the first time.

In June, Discovery launched a 24-hour Discovery HD channel and a suite of other offerings through Taiwan Fixed Network under TWN Broadband, as part of its New TV digital service in Taiwan.
