Digital moves this week from Singapore Airlines, BBC, VDONext and more

A roundup of the latest digital people moves, account wins, pitches and developments across the Asia-Pacific region.

Singapore Airlines apologised to its customers after extensive problems with its new website. The national carrier launched a revamped website on 22 May as part of its efforts to refresh and enhance its online services.

International Data Corporation (IDC) forecast that tablet sales in Asia would multiply tenfold to 21 million this year, marking a rise from just two million sold last year. 1.9 million tablets have already been sold in the first quarter throughout the region, in contrast to declining tablet shipment figures worldwide.

BBC Worldwide announced its digital sales increased to 8.1 per cent of net sales on the back of its online and mobile offerings. Its flagship online property BBC.com saw a revenue rise of 113 per cent in the US alone and the broadcaster has plans to roll out its global BBC iPlayer later in the year. 

Grey Melbourne was appointed by Australian firm Bulla Dairy Foods to handle its digital account. The agency was able to demonstrate how it could optimise both paid and social media channels that would build the client's brands including Bulla, Crunch, Fruit’n Yoghurt and Cadbury ice-cream.

Milo Singapore received over 40 video entries for its ‘Me & my Milo’ crowdsourcing campaign with Mindshare. The campaign invited consumers to produce a 30-second video on their own depicting the emotional bond that they shared with Milo and the product’s role in their lives.

VDONext, under the Next Media Group, collaborated with Café de Coral and Giordano to launch an innovative social video marketing platform. It provides advertisers a chance to produce a series of branded videos, in real-life, animation, or both, over a minimum one month term. 

The Star media group’s online job portal MyStarJob.com has released it mobile application which enables iPhone users to search for job vacancies while on the move. The app also integrates Google Maps which allows users to navigate to the location of their selected prospective employers on their mobile phones.

Changi Airport Group handed its integrated account, which includes digital, to Carat Singapore after a pitch. Changi Airport Group undertakes key functions focusing on airport operations and management, air hub development, commercial activities and airport emergency services.

Edelman Hong Kong appointed Sue Chan as associate director in the agency’s Hong Kong digital practice. She relocates from the US where she worked in the Edelman Silicon Valley office where she was responsible for leading the strategy and partnerships team for the agency’s digital division.

Former OMD Shanghai head of digital Martin Shaw will move to Maxus Hong Kong in mid-August to take up the newly-created role of head of digital for North Asia. At OMD Shanghai, he managed clients such as Visa, Pepsi, Johnson and Johnson, McDonald’s, Bosch, Levi’s and Virgin Atlantic. 

Citrus PR retained Racers’ Toolbox account and will direct all public relations and digital communications for the fitness and training company. The agency first won the account in 2009 to provide strategic counsel as Racers’ Toolbox went through brand re-positioning and extended its offerings to corporations.
