Reported last week, mobile advertising company Millenial Media has filed for an initial public offering, aiming to raise US$75 million. The move comes two months after the Baltimore company expanded into Southeast Asia. Millenial Media currently ranks among the top three mobile advertising companies in the US.
Levi's has partnered with Wunderman as its first-ever global digital agency. Taking responsibility for creative, social media, data strategy and analytics, the agency takes its place alongside OMD and Wieden+Kennedy on the global denim brand's roster. Wunderman pitched against RG/A and Rapp to win the business.
According to a new study by global research provider Forrester, the keenest social media users are in India and China. Based on 95,000 surveys in 18 countries, the research found that users in the emerging markets of China, Brazil, India and Mexico are among the highest users of social media platforms. While 93 per cent of online consumers in these markets have used at least one social networking site, more than 75 per cent in both India and China are also active creators of content.
To raise awareness of genetically engineered (GE) food in China, Greenpeace has launched a mobile gaming app called 'NoGeMo'. Inspired by Japan's Tamagochi toys, the app identifies hundreds of common food brands containing health risks related to GE practices. Including 400 brands and 20 supermarkets, the character in the game reacts to food types, notifying the user when its has been genetically tampered with.
YouTube has released a list of the 10 most watched community videos on the channel in Singapore for 2011. Angry Birds' tie up with 20th Century Fox' Rio is the only brand in the list dominated by user generated content videos. The top spot went to 'Daily life of Rustin Hieber' - a take off of teen superstar Justin Bieber.
A new study by mobile network management consultancy Ariesco has indicated that, on average, iPhone 4S users consume twice as much data as iPhone 4 users. The shift is mostly due to Siri, the latest model's new voice activated assistant. The study spanned over a million subscribers across a European network. Siri has not yet been widely adopted in Asia due to language issues.
Matthew Miller has been appointed online editor at Campaign Asia-Pacific. Formerly editor of Reed Business Information's EDN.com, Miller has 15 years' digital experience in Hong Kong and the US. His appointment coincides with that of Andrew Woodward as the new managing editor of the publication.
David Hunt has been named general manager at at AKQA's Shanghai office, reporting to the agency MD Stuart Sproule. He replaces Leo Chu who left the agency for Tribal DDB at the end of last year. UK native Hunt will take responsibility for the 50-strong team and expanding list of clients in the region. He has previously worked at BBDO Proximity, TBWA Tequila, Integer China and Momentum Beijing.
Spanish carmaker Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo (SEAT) in China has appointed OgilvyOne Beijing to handle its digital marketing on a one-year retainer contract. SEAT is now part of the Volkswagen Group and set up its headquarters in Beijing last year. The agency beat two others in a competitive pitch for the business.
