Digi shifts media brief to Starcom

Starcom has won Digi's media business after a three-way pitch against incumbent OMD and Universal McCann.

Starcom is believed to now have the necessary resources and manpower to handle a sizeable account like Digi, after major client Malaysia Airlines began freezing adspend last year amid mounting losses.

Naga DDB has held the creative part of the business since a pitch last April; however, the agency has in fact serviced the majority of the account since 1999.

One of Malaysia's biggest adspenders, Digi is also one of the country's three largest mobile operators, alongside Maxis and Celcom, which each have over four million subscribers. Digi's prepaid business makes up the bulk of its customer base and recently introduced two new products -- Digi Talktime Extend and Talktime Advance.
