DIARY: Stories we could tell... Mr Big plays unattainable card to the hilt

A great idea, too bad the star of the night was just so out-of-sorts.

Chris Noth, better known as Mr Big of Sex and the City fame, certainly looked like he wanted to be anywhere in the world but Hong Kong or more precisely at Hennessy's The Music Room bash organised alongside CNN and HBO last week.

Never mind the 8pm stubble or glazed eyes. Confronted by fans and trigger-happy photographers, Mr Big looked like a root canal job would have been nirvana by comparison.

Even so, guests who felt the full force of his distaste for cameras and fawning fans generously reflected that the man was simply taking his reel life role - as the oh-so unattainable, dashingly handsome, larger-than-life, cool, sauve New Yorker - into real life.

Maybe switching from one role to the next is like jet lag - some like Mr Big just take a little longer to shake it off. Then again, you would be out-of-sorts if you're mistaken for Chris Roth - as Mr Big was referred to by some that night.

Luckily, the evening's sponsors also included newly-cool liquor brand Hennessy and luxury clothing brand Christian Dior, who stepped in with the show's signature Cosmopolitan cocktails and handbag prizes to get the party going. The best-dressed man of the night also bagged a business class ticket to New York - where Noth clearly wanted to be going as well.
