DIARY: Stories we could tell ... Marc and David playing mind games

D'Arcy's Marc Lucas and BBDO/Guerrero Ortega's David Guerrero have plenty in common - they're among the world's top creatives, razor-sharp business minds, affable, egalitarian, humble, loud, effusive and, what few know - separated at birth.

The last part would have gone largely unnoticed had it not been for a twist of fate which brought them together as fellow judges at media's advertising awards last month.

It's not just Diary which believes the pair are actually happy twins, playing a cruel mind game on everyone. Others, too, have remarked on the uncanny resemblance.

One story goes like this: in the latter part of the '90s, David was the executive creative director of Ogilvy & Mather in the Philipinnes. But by 1998, he decided he needed to do something more substantial, so he set up an agency in Manila which he now runs in partnership with BBDO.

At around the same time, Marc left O&M New York, also for something more substantial to do, and he was quickly head-hunted for David's old job.

But when Marc attended his first client meeting as ECD for O&M Philippines, a baffled client noted: "I thought you left last week to set up your own agency. I even bought you drinks!"
