Last month, the agency rented out a theatre and invited all its clients and employees to join in the fun. The event saw the cinema packed with 310 clients and employees turning up to watch the hit movie, an animated film featuring the voices of Will Smith, Renee Zellweger, Angelina Jolie and more.
The shark in question turned out to be none other than Saatchi & Saatchi Taiwan CEO Christopher Fay. Since sharks are usually fairly menacing characters, some clarification was needed.
"For years, Saatchi & Saatchi Taiwan has been known as 'The Sharks'," Fay said "And the movie Shark Tale shows a shark that prefers to love people rather than treat them like small fish, so we saw this as a perfect opportunity to communicate the Saatchi & Saatchi Lovemarks vision."
Fortunately, the fact that Fay's costume made him look more like a very lovable and cuddly bunny than a giant, man-eating shark may have helped communicate the message - and certainly reinforced his point.
But given the reputation of international agencies for devouring smaller local shops, Diary's cynical side is less than surprised at Saatchis Taiwan's nickname. Fay, however, is more keen on taking the high road.
"The event got a lot of attention in Taipei," added Fay, "especially my willingness to dress up in a baby-blue shark outfit and greet people. If the right reason comes along, I'll do it again. I love my staff and we all love our Saatchi & Saatchi clients!"
