Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Would have thought that a creative had the best
chance of winning the ESPN Star Sports (ESS) English Premier League
Photo Caption Contest.
But the stark reality is that a suit - McCann-Erickson Guangming
business director Ernest Hoasjoe - put all the creatives to shame by
sweeping away the competition from around the region to win the grand
prize.
Hoasjoe's much-deserved prize are return tickets and accommodation for
two to the United Kingdom and free seats to watch a Premier League
match.
Let's hope that includes a clash featuring Bolton Wanderers who
surprised everyone, including the likes of Liverpool and Manchester
United, after they managed to go to the top of the best league in
England at the start of the new season a couple of weeks ago.
Six other industry executives have each won an ESS hamper worth
US$100 for their caption-writing skills. They were: Ong Poh Choo
of Competitive Access Singapore, Kurt Thompson of AMI Korea, Andrew
Lupton of Intuition Hong Kong, Publicitas Hong Kong's Martin Sinclair,
Guy Thonard of Rapp Collins Hong Kong and William Kwan of Asiasat. But
once again, how many of them sound as though they are full time
creatives? Sorry. Not many.
Creatives, you're going to have to try harder next time.
