Bus advertising done in the name of informing and entertaining passengers on board, but in actual fact, in disguise of earning revenues for bus companies and, of course, agencies.
I can tell you that advertisers have little respect from me or from the thousands of commuters who are what I can only describe as harassed daily by the nuisance of incredibly loud advertising messages.
The truth is that commuters like myself will definitely not heed the messages these advertisers offer on a medium like this, let alone buy their products and/or services.
Bus advertising is becoming a social ill, making Hong Kong a "world-class noisy city and giving passengers like myself a terrible headache. Living in a noisy, crowded city like Hong Kong, bus rides used to be a pleasure because, let's face it, they were practically the only time in the day you had some peace and quiet to yourself.
A time to reflect on things.
In effect, the advent of bus advertising in Hong Kong has robbed us of this right and freedom.
I hope advertisers - as well as potential advertisers - using the bus television medium will seriously consider the negative effects their ads are likely to have on passengers, simply because of the medium used and not the message.
Perhaps media, as an industry representative, can run an independent poll and see what its readers think of this form of advertising.
Think about it.
Is this really something you want your brand associated with?
