DIARY: On the spot - Ian Thubron, chief executive officer, M&C Saatchi (Hong Kong)

What's the best part of your job?

Going home at 5pm on a Wednesday for my "evening off" with George and

Ella, my children.

And the worst?

Schlepping back to the office at 8pm on a Wednesday after putting George

and Ella to bed.

Your all-time favourite film and why?

How to Get Ahead in Advertising. Largely due to a wonderful woman called

Barbara Symonds (you'll have to watch it to find out why).

Favourite book or CD?

I read a lot and my favourite book is usually the latest one I've read.

I'm just about to finish The Married Man by Edmund White, one of the

greatest living American writers.

Favourite restaurant?

The Mandarin Grill is the place I look forward to for days on end.

Do you have a favourite gadget?

I hate gadgets and gadgetery - I couldn't live without my mobile phone

but that's about it.

What are your hobbies?

My life is a list of hobbies I used to have. I used to play golf but I

can't afford the time in Hong Kong. I used to do tapestry but everyone

laughed at me.

Who would you want to play you in a movie?

I'd say someone like Tom Cruise but it wouldn't be particularly

representative. Martin Sheen is too old. I do think Noah Wylie in

Chicago Hope is pretty good but he's got too much hair. Maybe John

Travolta?

How would you title your movie?

Full Life. It would be a movie about getting as much as you can out of

all aspects of life (well you'd want one erudite answer right?).
