DIARY: My media - Shirley Dirkin, Texon International

Shirley Dirkin is chief executive of Texon International, based in

Hong Kong

Television

I don't watch much television. When I do, it's usually cable or

movies.

Local TV isn't worth watching - it's either dreadful or out of date. My

favourite series are taped and sent to me by a friend in the US.

Press

Regular reads are SCMP, International Herald Tribune, Newsweek, Vanity

Fair, Variety, People and of course media. Occasionally I read Time and

The Economist. I don't read women's magazines as I don't have the time

and I'm not keen on self-help articles.

SCMP, IHT and Newsweek keep me informed.

I like reading an international newspaper for the opinions and

perspective, and Newsweek gives a bit more depth. Variety and media I

read for business.

Vanity Fair and People are for my personal enjoyment. I love the

wide-ranging articles in Vanity Fair and I enjoy Dominick Dunne and

Christopher Hitchens.

Websites

I'm not a good internet user - I'm too impatient. I don't like having to

wait for the pages, and get frustrated that searches take so long.

There are only a few sites I visit regularly. My favourite is the

BBC.

Advertising

I really like the new Dior poster campaign. I like a couple of the Ralph

Lauren print ads. I also like the movie trailer for "Cocolat". I don't

remember ads that I don't like or which aren't relevant to me.
