DIARY: My media - Peter Oesch senior account director, Publicis Ad-Link Hong Kong

TELEVISION

I usually watch the local English language channels. Sometimes I switch to the Chinese ones as well (even though I only understand a few words of Cantonese), mainly to see the commercials. As a European working in Asia, it's important to understand the local cultures and the mass media is a key source of information for that purpose.

PRESS

I read the SCMP, AWSJ and FT on a daily basis for two reasons:

1) personal interest in news, politics and business

2) market observation and competitor analysis for one of our clients.

WEBSITES

Web pages are an important source of information. I use them to gather market intelligence on all kinds of industries. For some of our international clients, I have to regularly access their home pages for updated information on the latest developments on their side.

News is equally important. I access SCMP, CNN, BBC and FT regularly to keep up with Asian and international politics and economic developments.

The internet also helps me to keep abreast of what's going on in my home country, Switzerland.

ADVERTISING

I am interested in how global brands advertise in Asia. It's important to observe their behaviour not only in terms of media usage, but also to what extent they maintain international strategies/campaigns in Asia/to what degree they regionalise their activities.

RADIO

I only listen to the RTHK English news - first thing in the morning - and occasionally, classical or dance music.
