DIARY: Donat, Denmark and Bean to host Italian Job flashback

"My name is Michael Kane."

- "Use yer loaf, it's Jasper Donat."

- "Hold your bottle of sauce, it's Michael Denmark."

- "Don't get in a Harry Tate, it's Ed Bean."

With a bit of Friar Tuck you may have been one of the lucky recipients of a viral email invite courtesy of the boys above. Not Michael Kane, let's be serious...

Invites - we've had a few. Events - to many to mention. But when this particular birthday invite, styled on the '60's cult hit The Italian Job, landed in Diary's inbox, the urge to open rather than delete was justly rewarded.

Perhaps it was the "Night at the Wideboy Mansions" teaser.... And while Diary is keen to conduct a critical post-mortem of the artful use of Flash, let's just say that the explosion careening into the opening screen: "Wideboy Productions Presents" is the just the start of this mod-cum-ska-fest.

Echoing cockney legend Kane, the words "3 birthdays that'll blow the bloody doors off" lead into shots of messrs Donat, Denmark and Bean - aka "Japs-Eye D", "Mickey 'Left Eye' Denmark" and "Eddie 'The Knee' Bean" - gangsters that they are. (As an anonymously-written column, Diary is in no way subject to libel action caused by possible, suggested associations with underworld individuals or otherwise).

In a haze of Mini Coopers, Union Jacks and an overview of the "night of nostalgic mischief in celebration of the birthday boys", the venue: Hong Kong's Kee Club, the sponsors: which include Veuve Clicqot, and the profits from champagne sales: going to charity the Children's Heart Foundation, all smack of a little bit more than your average bash.

For anyone who hasn't received the invite - it's RSVP only.

Then again, Diary - clad a la mode in black and white - may well bring you The Hong Kong Job: Part 1.
