DIARY: Busy Stone makes time to pack plenty into SOPA seminar

Robert Stone's heart is clearly in publishing, though from the

looks of things, he could easily have found a career in some other

field.

Stone had his hands full these past months, overseeing Time Inc's sale

of Emphasis Custom Media as its general manager and vice-president. But

he still found time to co-organise this year's Society of Publishers in

Asia Media Seminar on June 21 in Hong Kong.

Perhaps seminar participant can expect a surprise from Stone (pictured

at one of the publishers' bashes as John Travolta, though Diary can't

vouch for his footwork) Time will tell.

Speaking of Time, Asiaweek's president Peter Brack has just rewarded

himself with a flash Porshe. A celebration gift perhaps at having pulled

off the relaunch of Asiaweek for a 'Vanity Fair meets Red Herring meets

Fortune' look?

Brack's not the only one in Time Inc's corridors of power celebrating a

splurge. So is his colleague, Andrew Butcher, president of Time and

Fortune Asia. Butcher though hasn't been as extravagant, preferring to

pick up Brack's old car - a BMW no less.

A final note, time's obviously not on Time's side. A release and a copy

of the new Time Traveler glossy landed on Diary's desk last week,

postmarked May 17. Only problem was the release was dated April 9, 2001.

Certainly took plenty of time to arrive.
