DHL Taiwan chief takes up CEO job at United group

TAIPEI: United Communications Group (UCG) has appointed a DHL executive to head one of the country's largest advertising and media conglomerates.

David Wang, formerly general manager of DHL Taiwan, has been named UCG's chief executive officer. His brief will be to coordinate the resources of its two agencies - United Advertising and Union Advertising - and public relations company United Pacific.

UCG is owned by the Koo's Group, which has equity investments in Carat United and United Asatsu and is a major cable TV distributor.

Wang's arrival coincides with the resignation of United Advertising's managing director Wei-wei Chen, effective September 31. "I had a dream for United Advertising, but they had a different timeline, said Chen, adding that her dream was to turn UCG into a major player in China.

She said her parting was amicable. United has yet to announce a successor to Chen. Chen was uncertain about her next move, which she said could include a return to China, where she served as general manager of Saatchi & Saatchi China prior to joining United. Another executive leaving United Advertising this month is vice-president Ling-ling Chen, who is believed to have been offered a position at DDB Needham.
