DDB Singapore signs on Cheong for digital CD role

SINGAPORE - DDB Singapore has hired group account director Melvin Kuek and digital creative director Jeff Cheong from Omnicom sister shop TBWA\Tequila.

Kuek returns to DDB in December after spending more than three years at TBWA leading the MobileOne account. He will be the brand and business director at DDB, heading the agency’s McDonald’s business.

Cheong had joined Tequila a year ago and is currently managing the digital strategy of the agency’s Singapore Airlines account. He will join Christer Eriksson, who recently assumed his position as general manager, and CD Martin Loo at Tribal DDB Singapore early next year.

According to Dan Paris (pictured), managing director, TBWA\Tequila Singapore, the duo’s almost-simultaneous move to DDB was a “coincidence”.

“While there exists a gentlemen’s agreement between Omnicom agencies that we do not poach staffers, the grander scheme of things would be to keep our talents within the network. People move around quite comfortably in the network and we hire them based on their individual merit,” he said.

“Their move is just a coincidence and I am not perturbed at all. We will take this change as an opportunity to hire new talents.”
