Ruth Lee, chief creative officer at DDB Hong Kong, will retain her title but shift the focus of her work. Her role will now include creative oversight for the Guangzhou office, supporting Richard Thomas, president and CEO of DDB Hong Kong, who oversees both operations. “Creatively, to have someone across both offices will help us a lot,” he said.
Thomas acknowledged there had been speculation in the Hong Kong market that Lee, who joined DDB Hong Kong in November 2007, would be leaving, but said she would instead be taking on the new role, which involves a reduction in the number of hours she works. She will continue to work on key accounts such as McDonald’s.
Thomas added that Lee’s new role came at a time when the Guangzhou office, which handles Wrigley’s. was expanding. He predicted it would grow from a “one-client agency” to a “six- or seven-client agency” this year.
Of his new role, Gamble said he would he be following Lee’s lead. “There will be a lot of challenges, but Ruth has turned the place around and I’m going to try to continue building on her work.”
