Danone partners with environment groups to fight global warming

SEOUL - Danone Group is partnering with Ramsar Convention and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature to undertake projects aimed at fighting global warming through wetlands protection and restoration.

The company plans to set up a fund called Danone Fund for Nature to support these projects.

Danone’s mineral water brand Evian will lead the intiative. As part of this Evian will support some programs to store carbon, by restoring wetlands with Ramsar and the IUCN, from 2009.

“As a brand, we are extremely proud to be associated with this ambitious project,” said Iain Farrell, area manager for Danone Imported Waters Asia. “Not only does it have the potential to make a real and positive difference in the fight against global warming, but it demonstrates how a global leader like Evian can utilise its considerable resources in a truly innovative way”.

The brand believes it will reduce its carbon footprint by half between 2000 and 2011.
