Damac has eyes on Asia

KUALA LUMPUR - Damac, one of the Middle East's largest private property developers, has handed its Singapore and Malaysia media business to Universal McCann Malaysia as it seeks to tap into the region's development.

The account was handed to the media agency after a credentials presentation, and according to a source the agency has been asked to develop
integrated communications planning, buying and execution for the company.

Prashant Kumar, CEO of Universal McCann Malaysia, confirmed that his agency had the account. It is understood that the company’s marketing will focus on attracting businesses and high-end consumers to a series of property projects. Damac is in the process of developing new commercial and residential projects worth RM3.8 billion (US$1.1 billion) at Malaysia’s Puteri Harbour in Nusajaya, which is one of the largest integrated urban developments in Southeast Asia.

In June, the firm also entered into a sales and purchase agreement worth AED448 million (US$121 million) with UEM Land, the master developer of Nusajaya. Nusajaya is being designed as the key city in special economic zone Iskandar Malaysia, which is being developed as a regional commercial hub by the Malaysian Government. Puteri Harbour will be among the seven signature developments at Nusajaya, which is up for completion in 2011.

Damac Properties will buy three parcels of land at Puteri Harbour and contribute to the development of a luxurious lifestyle community. The company hopes to gain from the real estate appreciation in this project and also from its close proximity to Singapore.

Damac Properties is worth approximately $45 billion and has properties spread across 18 countries.
