Malaysian Airlines, an official partner at the recent Sydney
Olympics, cemented its role as a national flag carrier when it launched
a touching new television commercial asking all Malaysians to rally
their support behind their Olympic athletes at the Games.
The story features the attempts of two boys who try as hard as they can
to raise enough money - by washing cars and polishing shoes - in order
to go to Sydney.
Their trip, however, comes to a dead end at the airport when they are
told they need a passport to travel overseas.
But despair turns to joy when they bump into the Malaysian hockey team,
who present them with their very own hockey sticks as a sort of
consolation.
The two-minute commercial, conceptualised by the creative team of Yasmin
Ahmad and Tan Yew Leong, aired on all national channels in Malaysia.
