Creative leaders leave DDB Taiwan

TAIPEI - DDB Taiwan's ECD Coco Chen is resigning amid speculation of further departures from its creative department.

Roy Soetanto (pictured), managing director of DDB Taiwan, confirmed that Chen leave at the end of December. Her replacement is believed to be Sean Liang, a group creative director from Ogilvy.

Soetanto said that DDB Taiwan is “evolving from a pure ad agency to something that provides integration. The future is not just above the line but in creative solutions that are media neutral.”

Other sources claim five creative people, with titles of associate creative director or above, are leaving the agency. “That is speculation on their side,” said Soetanto.

A widely circulated version of events is that DDB Taiwan’s creatives are protesting a rule imposed by Soetanto to stop a habit of arriving late to the office. ‘Roy’s Rule’ states if an employee is late three times he or she must resign.

“I think that Roy did the right thing,” said the head of another 4As agency. “You can’t have creatives wandering into work in the middle of the afternoon.”

Soetanto took the helm of DDB Taiwan in August, after a stint as managing director of Publicis Shanghai.
