<p>Q: In targeting an advertising campaign geographically what are </p><p>some of my choices? </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>A: There are two popular types of targeting - Domain targeting and IP, </p><p>or Internet Protocol, targeting. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>In targeting users domain names, a banner is served only to URL's </p><p>calling to an ad server from a local ISP (Internet Service Provider) </p><p>whose users have registered domain names ending in .hk, .jp, .sg </p><p>etc. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>IP targeting allows ad banners to be served to users who log on to the </p><p>internet by identifying them via their ISP. In this method of targeting </p><p>the ad server recognizes a 12 digit number assigned to the ISP </p><p>connection. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>This method of targeting is more user specific than domain targeting in </p><p>that it can recognize users who have a .com address but are in a country </p><p>other than the US. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>If you have any questions for this column, write to </p><p>cnni.asia@turner.com. </p><p><BR><BR> </p>
