How badly hurt is the dotcom sector? Pretty badly, according to the
IDC.
The researcher has warned not to expect any comeback from the sector for
a "matter of years".
"There will still be start-ups, and good companies will have IPOs
(albeit at much lower valuations), but the criteria for investing and
for taking them public will revert to the old rules. Criteria like
operating histories, consecutive quarters of profit, and long term
fundamentals will apply once again."
And how bad is the Internet stock crash? The IDC says "don't expect
miracles" because "stocks have been so hammered in 2000 (they) won't
roar back to their previous highs for many years".
