3Com is to ask the world how it feels about various issues, ranging

from the profound to the mundane, during a four-day worldwide opinion

poll, which begins on November 15.

A team of 500 Planet Pollsters will be spread out in 90 countries to

interview both the connected and the unconnected.

They will travel to locations as remote as the Xingu region of Brazil

and Menongue region of Angola to obtain the answers of those "who have

traditionally been technologically disenfranchised".

The Planet Project has reportedly adopted strict privacy controls and

has assured the security of the site. Respondent identities, including

e-mail addresses, will be removed from answers to the poll

questions.

Only aggregated data from the survey will be made public and personal

information will never be shared with any other party for any

reason.

3Com also assures poll participants that data gathered through the poll

will not be used for any marketing activity. In keeping with this

mindset, the site will not feature any ads and no merchandise will be

sold.

The survey is to feature 20 multiple choice questions in nine

categories, including religion; health and wellbeing; self-image; sex;

education, and law and order.

The survey is to be featured in Chinese, English, French, German,

Italian, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish.
