Cosmos remit goes to McCann without a pitch

MANILA: The Coca-Cola Export Corporation has picked Universal McCann as the media buying and planning agency for its Cosmos brand.

McCann managing director, Venus Navalta, said the agency won the account without a pitch. The company dropped plans for a pitch after it asked the agency to make a presentation.

Navalta said McCann was asked to draw up a strategy differentiating Pop Cola - the second-largest cola brand in the country - from Coca-Cola and all the other cola drinks in the market. Other brands in the Cosmos portfolio include Sarsi and the lesser known Cheers flavoured-drink line, including Jaz and Sparkle.

Navalta said effective media planning and buying was the focus of the presentation.

Universal McCann will be working with Jimenez D'Arcy, which recently won the creative pitch for the Pop Cola brand.
