CONNECTIONS: Web Guru wins design centre deal

HONG KONG: Web Guru Asia has won the Hong Kong Federation of Designers website design business, following a four-way pitch.

According to an industry source, the company outgunned Spike and another interactive agency, as well as local design house Design 4 HK to win the project.

Pitching started in mid-2001 but was a drawn-out affair as various pitches were held, with final decisions made by a committee.

Web Guru Asia will produce and host a bilingual website for the Hong Kong Design Centre, and will conduct an online design database for companies to search and view designers' portfolios.

The website will provide an online resource for design-related information, including an introduction to the design centre and its founding members, details of forthcoming events and documentation and legal advice for designers.

Napoleon Biggs, chief guru - sales and marketing, Web Guru Asia, said: "The website will be for the design industry and the target audience will be buyers of design services. We don't want it to be a site so designed that you can't find the information. It will offer tools for designers to deal with the business world."

The site will be rolled out in various phases, with the promotional showcase to launch first, following the opening of the centre in mid-September.

Biggs added that the website would be used for various promotional and online marketing initiatives in the future.

The project is backed by the Hong Kong Government and the Innovation and Technology Commission, and is funded by The Jockey Club Charities Trust.
