CONNECTIONS: Sun and Audi hook up for China webcast link

BEIJING: Seven businesses, from major categories including pharmaceuticals to technology, have signed up to use Chinese portal Sohu.com's online broadcasting services.

Among the clients are Sun Microsystems, Audi, Chinese computer manufacturer Legend, and Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Legend, mobile phone producers Kejian and Capitel, and household goods manufacturer Acuma, have used Sohu's real-time webcast to launch new product roadshows. Global pharmaceutical company Bristol-Myers Squibb also conducted a live question and answer session on Sohu.com, using a major health programme that was simultaneously broadcast on domestic television.

Audi also used this multimedia platform to promote national safe driving campaigns.

Charles Zhang, chief executive officer and president of Sohu.com, said: "Billboard-style advertising is no longer a viable option for results-driven companies. Corporations in China are increasingly using the interactivity of the internet to their advantage, demonstrating a growing maturity and awareness of effective online marketing strategies."

The portal's vice-president of etechnology solutions, Sam Qian, said the need for such a service was growing as companies were working towards greater efficiency and savings.
