CONNECTIONS: Shell Mobile targets HK motorists

HONG KONG: Shell Mobile, a subsidiary of Shell Hong Kong and Sunday Communications, has launched a website and Shell-branded phone service targeting motorists.

Shell Mobile provides driving support and information services for Hong Kong motorists, as well as standard voice, data and SMS features.

According to Shell & Sunday Mobile Communications chief executive officer, Alistair Gordon, the service uses SMS to deliver traffic information to drivers.

The company has also launched a website at www.shellmobile.com, which lists Shell promotions.

"This is a very Shell-branded service and is aimed at our target audience.

And once it's up-and-running, there are a number of ways to use it for other marketing purposes,

said Gordon.

He added that users of the service could also register for a Shell loyalty programme which allowed the redemption of bonus points online.

"People can collect the bonus points and use them to pay for the monthly fee. Also every dollar spent on the mobile service, gives a bonus point.

The website can also be used for marketing and to encourage users to get onto the site,

Gordon said.

The mobile service offers real-time, location-based information and services for motorists including traffic reporter, journey assist, location finder, route planner and regular traffic alerts.

Gordon added that the services extend the Shell brand and its retail outlets, with the aim of "helping our customers to avoid hassle on the road".
