Englishtown vice-president Marcos Calliari said: "Falling English standards and reports of record-breaking unemployment mean that the time is right for this new English language learning channel in Hong Kong. It will provide all segments of the population with a flexible and effective way to study and learn to speak and read better English. There is a clear need for standards to be improved."
MSN Hong Kong director, Celina Chan, said the promotion would be the first in a series of language learning initiatives planned for the Hong Kong website. "Language learning is a great way to give people a good reason to come back to MSN Hong Kong, Chan said.
Part of the 'Hong Kong speaks English' campaign, the MSN-Englishtown initiative includes an essay writing competition, with the winner invited to participate in summer internships at a number of organisations, including MSN/Microsoft, Towngas and the American Chamber of Commerce.
