CONNECTIONS: Economist kicks off subscription drive via internet

HONGKONG: The Economist magazine has launched a customer relationship and subscription drive, using an e-messaging tool developed by OgilvyInteractive.

The Economist Express is built on the Vflash messenger platform, and uses the application to deliver content directly to users' desktops. When an item of interest matches a user's preferences, an icon on the desktop flashes, alerting the user to a new message. Users can change preferences by clicking on the 'customised' button.

The application is available for download at www.economistasia.com. Sean Rach, OgilvyInteractive managing director, said: "It's not just to help drive subscriptions to the print edition, but also to become an interactive customer management tool. The platform allows users to receive personalised news as well as interactively participate in quizzes and surveys, play games or explore content from The Economist."
