CommunicAsia hits highest level

SINGAPORELeading electronics trade show CommunicAsia drew a record number of attendees for its 2006 show.

The show, which was held from June 20 to 23 in conjunction with EnterpriseIT and Broadcast-Asia, attracted 63,814 attendees. Some 49 per cent of these were from overseas while there were 2,339 exhibiting companies from 67 countries that occupied six halls of Singapore Expo. Attendance increased by five per cent over 2005. Stephen Tan, chief executive of show organiser Singapore Exhibition Services, said: "The show was all about digital convergence - the effort to bring together computer, phone, recording and broadcast technologies within an all-digital environment enabling new, flexible uses of products and services." China's participation at CommunicAsia grew by 45 per cent while the South Korean presence at BroadcastAsia doubled from last year. The first-time European ICT Pavilion presented leading-edge technologies, as well as products and applications for audiovisual, e-government, e-health, e-security and telecommunications. Trade visitors with a total of US$4.5 billion to spend sourced for the latest products and services for business and leisure, while also exploring business alliances. Nikhil Kanodia, president, Precision Electronics, India, said: "I'm a regular visitor. "We are looking to partner with SMEs in niche technology. CommunicAsia is a great meeting place."
